Empowering Your Journey Beyond the Diagnosis

Receiving a dyslexia assessment is about far more than just a label; it is the first step towards unlocking a clearer understanding of how your mind works. Many people I have worked with describe the assessment process as a "lightbulb moment" that replaces years of frustration with clarity and an explanation for difficulties that they have been having.

However, the true value of your assessment lies in the diagnostic report itself. This document is not meant to sit in a drawer—it is a powerful tool designed to help you advocate for yourself or your child. Whether you are navigating the education system, seeking workplace adjustments, or simply looking for targeted strategies to manage daily tasks, your report provides the evidence-based roadmap you need to secure the right support.

The Process

What to Expect: Your Assessment Day

The diagnostic assessment is a collaborative and supportive process designed to give us a comprehensive "blueprint" of your cognitive profile. It isn’t like a typical school exam; there are no "passes" or "fails." Instead, we are looking at how you process information so we can identify the strategies that will work best for you.

The Schedule

A standard assessment session lasts approximately three hours, paced comfortably with regular breaks on top. My goal is to ensure you feel relaxed and perform at your best.

technical-skills.png

Underlying Ability

Understanding your verbal and visual problem-solving skills to build a complete picture of your learning profile.

performance.png

Processing Speed

How quickly your brain handles and responds to simple information—an important factor in learning.

worker.png

Working Memory

The ability to hold and manipulate information in the short term, crucial for reading and comprehension.

language-skills (1).png

Language Skills

Evaluating receptive language (understanding what is heard) and listening skills.

attain.png

Attainment

Practical testing of reading accuracy and comprehension, spelling, and writing fluency.

💡 Tip: Bring a drink and light snack for breaks to keep energy levels up!

After the Assessment

Once the session is complete, I will analyse the results to produce your comprehensive report. This detailed document will interpret all the scores and, most importantly, provide a list of tailored recommendations for home, school, or the workplace. I will send you the report (via email) within ten working days, and arrange a phone or video call to go through the results.

Common Questions

Frequently Asked Questions

It's completely natural to feel a bit of "test anxiety" before an assessment. These questions are designed to help you feel prepared and at ease.

Preparing for the Day: A Quick Checklist

  1. Confirm the appointment time and location (all details in your confirmation email).

  2. Talk about the assessment as a way to find "learning strengths" rather than "problems."

  3. Complete the pre-assessment questionnaire (I will send this to you beforehand) so I have the necessary background history.

  4. Get a teacher at school or college (if applicable) to complete the school questionnaire, which I also need before the assessment

  5. Get an eye test if you have not had one within the last two years.

  6. Bring a snack and a drink!
